Somewhere Premiere

Tuesday December 7, 2010 FOCUS FEATURES ARCLIGHT THEATRES, HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA Somewhere won the Golden Lion Award for Best Picture at the 2010 Venice International Film Festival. From Academy Award-winning writer/director Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette), Somewhere is a witty, moving, and empathetic look into the orbit of actor Johnny Marco (played by Stephen Dorff). You have probably seen him in the tabloids; Johnny is living at the legendary Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood. He has a Ferrari to drive around in, and a constant stream of girls and pills to stay in with. Comfortably numbed, Johnny drifts along. Then, his 11-year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) from his failed marriage arrives unexpectedly at the Chateau. Their encounters encourage Johnny to face up to where he is in life and confront the question that we all must: which path in life will you take? Filmed entirely on location, Somewhere reunites the writer/director with Lost in Translation editor Sarah Flack and production designer Anne Ross. Stacey Battat (Broken English) is the costume designer, and Harris Savides (Elephant) is the director of photography, on Somewhere. A Focus Features presentation in association with Pathé Distribution, Medusa Film, and Tohokushinsha of an American Zoetrope production, Somewhere is executive-produced by Francis Ford Coppola, Paul Rassam, and Fred Roos. The producers are G. Mac Brown, Roman Coppola, and Sofia Coppola. MPAA-rated R (for sexual content, nudity and language), Somewhere has a running time of 98 minutes. Wolfgang Puck (1949):	Chef-restaurateur who brought new life to California cuisine by adding a French twist to common ingredients. Before coming to the US in 1973, Puck was a chef at the Hotel de Paris in Monaco and Maxim’s in Paris. Puck took Los Angeles by storm, and his stint as chef and part owner of Ma Maison was a delicious success. Puck went on to publish his first cookbook in 1982, Modern French Cooking for the American Kitchen, and founded the trendy restaurant, Spago, later that year. Since then Puck has opened Chinois in Santa Monica, Postrio in San Francisco, Granita in Malibu and the more affordable, Wolfgang Puck Pizza Cafes, across the US.

Kevin Bacon (1958):	Actor who is most famous for putting on his dancing shoes in the 1984 film Footloose. Bacon began his acting career on the stage, making his Broadway debut in "Slab Boys," a play that also starred then-unknown actors Sean Penn and Val Kilmer. After winning a starring role on the silver screen in the 1982 movie "Diner," Bacon knew that he wanted to have a career in film. Some of Bacon’s credits include She’s Having a Baby (1988), Flatliners (1990), JFK (1991), He Said, She Said (1991), A Few Good Men (1992), Apollo 13 (1995), Sleepers (1996), Hollow Man (2000), and Trapped (2002). Most recently he appeared in the Oscar nominated picture Mystic River (2003), directed by Clint Eastwood

Anjelica Huston (1951):	Actress who garnered a whole new audience of fans when she starred as Morticia Addams in The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values in 1993. Huston began acting as a teenager in father John Huston’s film A Walk with Love and Death (1969). While taking a brief absence from the big screen to model in New York, Huston made an Oscar-winning return to film in 1985, with her performance in Prizzi’s Honor. Huston has given stellar performances in films including Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989), The Grifters (1990), The Perez Family (1995), Ever After: A Cinderella Story (1998), The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), Blood Work (2002) and last summer's Daddy Day Care. Huston directed her first feature film, Agnes Browne, in 1999.

Eva Marie Saint (1924):	American actress who has starred in films, on Broadway and television in a career spanning seven decades. She won an Academy Award for her feature film debut in On the Waterfront (1954), and later appeared in Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller North by Northwest (1959). Saint received Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations for A Hatful of Rain (1957) and won an Emmy Award for the miniseries People Like Us (1990). Her film career also includes a lead role in Exodus (1960) and supporting roles in Because of Winn-Dixie (2005), and Superman Returns (2006). Saint was born in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of Eva Marie (née Rice) and John Merle Saint. She attended Bethlehem Central High School in Delmar, New York, graduating in 1942. Eva Marie was inducted into the high school's hall of fame in 2006. She studied acting at Bowling Green State University, while a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. There is a theater on Bowling Green's campus named for her. She was an active member in the theater honorary fraternity, Theta Alpha Phi.Saint's introduction to television began as an NBC page. In the late 1940s, she began doing extensive work in radio and television before winning the Drama Critics Award for her Broadway stage role in the Horton Foote play The Trip to Bountiful (1953), in which she co-starred with such formidable actors as Lillian Gish and Jo Van Fleet. In 1955, she was nominated for her first Emmy for "Best Actress In A Single Performance" on The Philco Television Playhouse for playing the young mistress of middle-aged E. G. Marshall in Middle of the Night by Paddy Chayevsky. She won another Emmy nomination for the 1955 television musical version of the Thornton Wilder classic play Our Town with co-stars Paul Newman (in his only musical) and Frank Sinatra. Her success and acclaim were of such a high level that the young Saint earned the nickname "the Helen Hayes of television." Saint has appeared in a number of television specials and documentaries, particularly in the past decade, including The Making of North by Northwest, which she narrated and hosted. In 2009, she made a rare public appearance at the 81st Academy Awards ceremony as a Best Supporting Actress presenter. She has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for motion pictures at 6624 Hollywood Boulevard, and television at 6730 Hollywood Boulevard. Saint has been married to producer/director Jeffrey Hayden since October 28, 1951. They have two children, Darryl (born April 1, 1955) and Laurette (born July 19, 1958), and three grandchildren.

Bill Withers (1938):	An African American vocalist and songwriter who performed and recorded from 1970 until 1985. Some of his best-known songs are "Lean on Me", "Ain't No Sunshine," "Use Me," "Just the Two of Us", "Lovely Day," and "Grandma's Hands". He was born the youngest of six children in the small coal-mining town of Slab Fork, West Virginia. Raised in nearby Beckley, West Virginia, Withers was thirteen years old when his father died. He enlisted with the United States Navy at age eighteen and served for nine years; during which time he became interested in singing and writing songs. Soon after his discharge from the Navy (1965), he relocated to Los Angeles (1967) for a musical career. Withers worked as an assembler for several different companies, including Douglas Aircraft Corporation, while recording demo tapes with his own money, shopping them around and performing in clubs during the night. When he debuted with the song "Ain't No Sunshine" he refused to resign his job because of his belief that the music business was a fickle industry and that he was still a novice compared to other acts. At the 14th annual Grammy Awards on Tuesday, March 14, 1972, Withers won his first Grammy for Best Rhythm and Blues Song for "Ain't No Sunshine." Bill Withers was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005 and into the inaugural class of the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame in 2007. Also, in 2007 his "Lean On Me" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Currently, a feature documentary entitled "Still Bill" directed by Damani Baker and Alex Vlack is being made about Withers. During the professional semi-hiatus which began in the late 1970s, Withers concentrated more on personal matters than professional recording. In 1976, he married Marcia Johnson and they had two children, Todd and Kori, a law student and a singer/song writer respectively. Marcia eventually assumed the direct management of his Beverly Hills-based publishing companies, in which his children also became involved as they became adults.[5] He was also once married to actress Denise Nicholas, best known for her roles on the shows Room 222 and In the Heat of the Night.

The Hangover Premiere

Tuesday June 02, 2009 Warner Brothers Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Hollywood, CA Turning up in the masses for a walk on the red carpet, Tinseltown's finset were out at the Los Angeles premiere of "The Hangover" on Tuesday evening (June 2). Stars Justin Bartha and Heather Graham were among those spotted hamming it up for photographers and fans attending the event. As for the celebrities out supporting the upcoming comedy flick, Audrina Patridge, Zac Efron and the Olsen twins were among the more popular sightings. Other attendees included Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy, Kendra Wilkinson, Kate Walsh, Eva Mendes and Jamie-Lynn Sigler. Hitting theaters  (June 5), "The Hangover" is described as "a Las Vegas-set comedy centered around three groomsmen who lose their about-to-be-wed buddy during their drunken misadventures, then having to retrace their steps in order to find him."
