WHAT: The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) will host the
2012 Art + Film Gala honoring artist Ed Rucha and filmmaker Stanley Kubrick,
with director Steven Spielberg paying tribute to the late filmmaker, at
LACMA on Saturday, October 27, 2012. The evening will also include a special
performance by Grammy nominated Florence + The Machine. Co-chaired by actor
Leonardo DiCaprio and LACMA Trustee Eva Chow, who continue to champion
LACMA's film initiatives, the evening will celebrate the art of the film and
will bring together luminaries from both communities. Coinciding with the
gala, LACMA will highlight the 2012 Art + Film honorees in two exhibitions,
Ed Ruscha: Standard (September 22, 2012-January 21, 2013) and Stanley
Kubrick (November 1, 2012-June 30, 2013).

Proceeds from the gala will be used to support LACMA's initiative to make film more central to the museum's curatorial programming, while also funding LACMA's broader mission. This includes a robust film program led by Film Independent's Elvis Mitchell, as well as exhibitions, acquisitions, and educational programming, in addition to screenings that explore the intersection of art and film.

The 2012 Art + Film Gala has been made possible with the generous support of
Gucci.

ABOUT LACMA  Since its inception in 1965, LACMA has been devoted to collecting works of art that span both history and geography and represent Los Angeles's uniquely diverse population. Today, the museum features
particularly strong collections of Asian, Latin American, European, and American art, as well as a contemporary museum on its campus. With this expanded space for contemporary art, innovative collaborations with artists,
and an ongoing Transformation project, LACMA is creating a truly modern lens through which to view its rich encyclopedic collection.
