Born on This Day - June 28

Some of the people who are celebrating their birthday today include:
John Cusack (1966): Actor who was the king of the teen flicks in the 80s, starring in Sixteen Candles (1984), The Sure Thing (1985) and Say Anything in 1989. Say Anything was Cusack’s last teen role, and with an award for Most Promising Actor from the Chicago Film Festival in hand, he embarked on a successful film career. Cusack has gone on to give stellar performances in The Grifters (1990), Bullets Over Broadway (1994), Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997), Grosse Point Blank (1997), The Thin Red Line (1998), Being John Malkovich (1999), High Fidelity (2000), Serendipity(2001), Identity 2003 and last years hit Runaway Jury.

Kathy Bates (1948): Actress who rose to fame playing an overly devoted fan in the 1990 Stephen King thriller, Misery. Bates began her career in television, appearing on "All My Children," "L.A. Law" and "China Beach." After taking home an Academy Award for Best Actress for Misery, Bates starred in a string of hits including Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), Angus (1995), Dolores Claiborne (1995),Diabolique (1996), Titanic (1997), The Waterboy (1998), Primary Colors (1998), About Schmidt (2002) and the TV musical "Annie" in 1999. Bates has also recently appeared in and directed episodes of HBO's hit series, "Six Feet Under". Kathy will be appearing in the remake hit Around the World in 80 Days later this summer.

Mel Brooks (1926): Comedian and screenwriter who created the successful television series, "Get Smart," in the 1960s. Brooks’ first comedic satires, Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles, both released in 1974, left audiences everywhere rolling with laughter. His talent for spoofing both the genre of western and horror pictures, lead Brooks to expand his repertoire. Starting his own production company in 1979, aptly called "BrooksFilms, Ltd.," Brooks went on to produce such films as The Elephant Man (1980) and The Fly (1986). Brooks made a successful return to comedy in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, writing and directing the hits Spaceballs (1987) Life Stinks (1991), Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) and Dracula: Dead and Loving It in 1995. His play, "The Producers," has become a Broadway smash.
